the challenge
GLL, and its customer facing brand Better, promote healthy and active lifestyles, giving communities access to facilities that help improve their health and happiness. It could be gyms, libraries, playgrounds, even huge, world-class venues: they have a great variety.

As a charitable social enterprise, they invest time and effort in encouraging everyone to take advantage of the extensive opportunities and services they offer in communities.

the project
The facility in Barking was originally run and managed by the local council until GLL took over the running and management of the club. They redesigned it, changed the layout and wanted to introduce a small group training area, a Group X studio and a spin studio. GLL also wanted graphics in the gym and a frame to be included in the small group training area.

the solution
The original lifting area, which featured racks and barbells, became the brand new small group training area. Kitted out with the very best functional training equipment and an Octagon QUAD this new zone in the gym offers a fun and vibrant place for members to experience various training options.

The zone helps engage the local community. The Group X studio aims to increase member attraction and retention and help to improve members’ confidence when exercising. The new boxing stations gives members the opportunity to condition their upper body and improve coordination. Inspirational graphics were designed by Escape Creative in accordance with guidelines from GLL and these featured in the small group training area and the new studio.
